Healthcare Administration Degrees

How we know

How Many Healthcare Administration Degree Programs Are There?

There are 368 ranked bachelor’s healthcare administration degree programs at 364 institutions across 50 states, and 414 master’s programs of which 103 hold CAHME accreditation. That is the answer, and it took about a second to query.

A further 13 bachelor’s programs are in the federal file and on this site, with their figures and their cards, but are not in that count: they have closed, entered teach-out, been deactivated or stopped taking applications. Ranking a program nobody can start would flatter the list and waste a reader’s application, so they are listed on their state page without a rank.

The part worth reading is what stood between the raw federal extract and those numbers, because anyone can re-publish an IPEDS pull and most sites do. What they cannot tell you is how often that file is wrong about the things you would actually act on. Here is ours.

17 Program Pages Were Confirmed, and Wrong

These are the expensive failures. Automated discovery finds a school page, every keyword matches, the page is real, it passes every check, and it describes a different degree. A joint MHA at a school whose bachelor’s row we were filling. A twelve-credit graduate certificate requiring a completed degree, two references and an essay, attached to a bachelor’s listing.

A confirmed-but-wrong page is worse than no page at all, because it reads as verified. Linking one from a bachelor’s ranking sends someone applying with a high school diploma at a program requiring a degree they do not have. All 17 were excluded rather than linked, and each is recorded with the URL and the reason, so the decision can be checked instead of taken on trust.

The Federal Delivery Flag Was Wrong 58 Times

This one is the reason to distrust any list that did not open the pages. Of the programs whose own page states a delivery format plainly, nine of fifteen disagreed with the federal online flag. Sixty percent. And it failed in both directions, which rules out treating the flag as a cautious floor: one school flagged online publishes “Format: In Class-Day”, another flagged on-campus offers the degree fully online.

Where the school’s own page contradicts the federal record, the school wins, and we recorded 58 such corrections with the sentence each rests on. This matters twice over. Delivery carries 20% of the bachelor’s score, so a wrong flag can move a program ten points out of a hundred. More importantly it is the factor most likely to decide whether a working reader can do the degree at all, and telling someone a campus-only program is online wastes an application.

So when this site says 190 of the 368 ranked programs are online and 164 are on campus, that split has been corrected against primary sources 58 times. A list that never checked has the same underlying errors and has not told you they are there.

The corrected set is not a claim of perfection either. Sixteen programs have had their page text read line by line; the rest carry the federal record as received. What we can say is which is which, and that is the whole difference between a ranking and a re-list.

Why the Institution Count Is Lower Than the Program Count

The 368 healthcare administration degree programs sit at 364 institutions, and the gap is not an error. A university running the degree both on campus and fully online appears once for each, because they are different products with different prices and a reader can only enroll in one of them. Counting institutions instead would hide exactly the choice the ranking exists to inform. Of those states, 33 have enough ranked programs to carry a page of their own; the rest are covered nationally rather than given a page with three rows on it.
